I don't skate anymore but I got these over the standard old skools because of the better quality and comfort. The siluete silhouette and style of these can't be beaten by anything else on the market, they just look so good no matter what you're wearing. I went true to size and they're pretty comfortable right out of the box but I'd recommend breaking them in a bit before going for a longer hike (as is the case with most shoes).

Longer to break in and feels thicker than the Pro Old Skools, but way more durable and can take more impact. Note the picture shows glossy outsole when in fact the outsole is matte since vans changed it as the glossy coating wore off to easily in the previous revision. Fits true to size, roomy enough toebox. No complaints
