Size recommendations for complete skateboards - tips for choosing the right size
There's no such thing as completeboards for girls, boys, or other gender identities. Instead, you should choose your complete board by size. The size usually means the width of the skateboard deck. Skate decks are measured from the top and its size is given in inches [″]. One inch corresponds to 2.54 cm.
It's important that your skateboard size suits you. This ensures that you can handle your it well, learn quickly and have fun with the complete for a long time. Your shoe size and your height give clues as to which complete skateboard size is best for you.
Select complete skateboards according to shoe size
The deck of your complete skateboard should not be wider than your feet or shoes are long. The rule of thumb is: the larger the shoe size, the wider the skateboard deck should be. However, these are only recommendations. It doesn't mean that you can't ride a narrow skateboard with big feet.
Example: For the shoe size US 7 or EU 40, we recommend a complete board width of 7.875″ - 8.125″. For shoe sizes US 8 or EU 41 we recommend 8.00″ - 8.25″ wide skateboards, for US 9 8.00″ - 8.375″ wide skateboards, etc.
In this size chart you will find recommendations as to which skateboard deck widths suit you and your shoe size. With the "width" filter in our shop, you can then display all complete boards with the width that fits you best.

Select skateboard complete boards according to your height
Length can also play a role when buying your skateboard. The deck of a complete board shouldn't be much longer than your legs. This gives you more control over your skateboard in the beginning.
Compared to the width, the length of your skateboard deck plays a less important role. The skateboard deck length is also related to the width of the deck. Wide skateboard decks and completes are usually a little longer.
Example: If you are 160cm tall, we recommend a skateboard length of 31.5″ - 31.875″. For a height of 170cm we recommend 31.75″ - 32.00″ long skateboards and for 180cm we recommend 31.875″ - 32.25″ long complete boards, etc.
In the size chart for the skateboard deck length you'll find a few tips on which lengths might suit you. With the filter "length" in our shop, you can then display all complete skateboards with the ideal length for you.

< 140 cm | 28″ - 30.5″ |
< 150 cm | 30.5″ - 31.5″ |
150 - 175 cm | 31.5″ - 31.875″ |

Basically, complete skateboards are always constructed in the same way and the components are similar. The most important components are: deck, trucks, wheels, bearings, hardware and griptape.
- The deck is the part made of wood on which you stand on and shows you where the front and the back part of the skateboard is*.
- The trucks are made of metal and you need two of them to steer your board.
- Skateboard wheels are made of urethane. You need four of them to roll.
- You need two bearings per wheel - you won't get very far without them.
- Hardware or bolts are required to connect the skateboard deck and trucks.
- Griptape is attached to the deck & gives you grip for steering and tricks.
* The nose is the front part and the tail is the back part of a deck. The nose and tail each start behind the outer drill holes for the trucks. Usually the nose is a little longer than the tail. The graphics of your complete board will help you see the difference. Deck graphics are usually designed so that the nose points up or to the right. You can find out more about this in the Skateboard Wiki.
Not all complete skateboards are equal!
The umbrella term Skateboard usually means "skateboards for doing tricks". In addition to riding, these complete boards are also designed for tricks such as the Ollie and the Kickflip. If you are looking for a skateboard for relaxed cruising, you should search for a Cruiser Skateboard or Longboard.
More equipment for your complete skateboard?
Don't forget protective equipment!
Unfortunately, falling is part of skateboarding. In time, you'll learn how to take a fall properly. At the beginning it's important that your skateboarding equipment includes a helmet and protective gear. A helmet is especially important when you start skating ramps.
In the skatedeluxe skate shop you'll find a large selection of skateboard helmets and protectors for wrists, elbows and knees. It's not true that skating with a helmet is uncool. Those who wear protective gear injure themselves less and in the end they're back on the board quicker.
More complete board equipment
In addition to high-quality skateboards, you can also order the right skate shoes in the skatedeluxe skate shop. Skate shoes are designed to withstand the abrasion of griptape longer than regular shoes, offer you optimal control over your complete board and protect your feet.
Although your complete skateboard is ready to go, you can swap out individual parts whenever you want. Skate tools are best for loosening the individual nuts and bolts of your board. These tools have everything you need to assemble your skateboard and you can adjust subtleties such as the hardness of the steering. You can find out exactly how this works in our skateboard assembly instructions.
With a complete board, skate shoes, protective gear and tools you are perfectly equipped for your first sessions. A little know-how about skateboards can't hurt, of course. But it's more important that you have fun skating!
